A synopsis of Byttnerieae (Malvaceae, Byttnerioideae) from the Atlantic Forest, with notes on geographical distribution, nomenclature, and conservation

This synopsis presents diagnostic characters and comments on morphological variability, distribution, conservation of species Byttnerieae (Malvaceae, Byttnerioideae) from the Atlantic Forest. is represented by two allied genera in this phytogeographic domain: Ayenia L. Byttneria Loefl. An extensive literature survey along with herbarium collection analyses revealed occurrence 20 Forest, nine which are endemic to Brazil. Seven restricted Southern portion i.e., occurring southern São Paulo state Santa Catarina, most records being Brazil, but some also occur Argentina Paraguay. Beyond three either Rio de Janeiro or Bahia, identification key focusing vegetative characters, as well illustrations notes distribution conservation, presented. Nomenclatural updates for taxa were provided, including: designation lectotypes six names; amendment authorship one name (B. gracilipes); reassessment A. glabrescens, an dry deciduous forests Bahia whose precise location was unknown.
